Interact 2008-2009

Fellow Winchester Rotarians:

The 2004 Members of the Winchester sponsored Interact Club most likely are now college seniors graduating in 2009.
How quickly the years have passed !

Once again, the Interact Club is under way.  I am happy to report the 2008 - 2009 slate of officers is lead by Winchester High School senior, Brittany Lane. The Vice-President is Christine Casey.  Kristen Weiner is club Secretary and Vivian Perry is Treasurer. The club meets on a monthly basis and continues to recruit new members.

Club members have initiated their first fund raising project.  They are selling bracelets that state " Winchester Interact Club - Service above Self " with the proceeds possibly going to Unicef or Children with Aids.

We are all aware that young adults have very busy schedules.  We should commend these students in their efforts to take this time out from their studies, activities and jobs to participate.

World Interact Week is November 3rd through November 9th, 2008.   Interactors and Rotarians around the world will come together to commemorate the charter of the first Interact Club in 1962.  Although it may be on a small basis, it is nice to know that we continue to participate.

Thanks, Linda Doucette

Message from the Interact President

2004 marks the Winchester Interact chapter’s third year of community service, and I am proud to serve as its President.  In previous years our group has done a great deal of work around Winchester, organizing fund-raisers and yard sales, painting murals and visiting nursing homes, and this year promises to be one of our best.  We have already completed a good deal, holding a used goods drive that benefited the “Mission of Deeds” and the “Hands Across the Water” organizations and raised $150 for the “Poor Water for the World” project. We also have recruited a number of new members, with Casey Wortmann, Micheal Ou, Karl Wang, Alex Burka, David Seliger, Michelle Hall and Allison Brown joining our ranks.  Though we will be losing a number of our current members to college next year, including myself and our founding President Alison Seliger, we have a strong new group ready to keep Interact going even after we have left.

This year, we have a number of exciting projects lined up.  Aside from our recent booth at the Winchester Chamber of Commerce Yard Sale (see pix below), we also plan to volunteer at local nursing homes, both spending time with residents and helping with landscaping.  As in previous years, we also plan to make the most of our members’ unique artistic talents.  We plan to perform music for several of our events, and to create a new mural in downtown Winchester.

This year should be a good one for Winchester Rotary Interact.  I know that I am looking forward to it, and I hope to share some of our exploits with you over the coming months.

            Best wishes,

            Fletcher Wortmann,

            Winchester Rotary Interact President.
