Dear Members and Prospective Rotarians,

Our theme this year, selected by Rotary International President, John Kenny, is “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands".

My first reaction was to change this theme to The Future of Rotary is in “Our” Hands because I do not want to leave a legacy of the lazy president who delegates everything.

And then I realized that I embody being a servant leader.  I am most comfortable being the glue behind the scenes holding all the pieces together.  So the future of Rotary IS in your hands, and I am here to support all of you any way. I can.  We have a great club with lots talent and ideas and a strong desire to serve our community.  I will do everything in my power to help you all be successful.

One of the best ways to expand your circle of friends and business colleagues – and new Rotarians - is to invite and welcome guests to our lunches.  Guests can include our clients, colleagues, friends and community leaders.  New members mean more hands to help with our service projects and more fun.

Service must be supported by fellowship and fun, and we will enjoy getting to know each other better at our summer barbecue, our Oktoberfest, our pre-Thanksgiving Football lunch, our annual joint meeting with the Winchester Chamber of Commerce, our holiday and St. Patrick’s day parties and working together on the many hands-on service projects we support including Mission of Deeds, Germaine Lawrence School, mentoring our Interact Club (high school age Rotarians), and working together to help plant and maintain Borggaard Beach and Davidson Park.

Another way to celebrate together will be to make travel plans together or car pool together to the 101st Rotary International Convention that will be in Montreal from June 20 to 23, 2010.  Some of us may want to join our District Governor, Ingrid Brown at our District Conference at Samoset Resort in Maine, May 21 to 23, 2010.

This is an historic year, the 100 year anniversary of Rotary in Massachusetts.   Together, we can make this the best year yet.  The future is in our hands.

Donna Denio

President 2009-2010
