Community Service Scholarship Application 2024

 
Rotary is an International charitable organization comprised of professional and business leaders whose goals are humanitarian service, high ethical standards and the promotion of goodwill and peace around the world. The motto of Rotary is “Service Above Self”. The Winchester Rotary Club has served the Town of Winchester since it was officially chartered on April 28, 1927.
 
Charles C. Parkhurst Scholarship - The first Winchester Rotary Scholarship Fund was established with a bequest from the estate of Charles C. Parkhurst, a Rotarian and longtime resident of Winchester. 
 
Harry Chefalo Scholarship - A second Scholarship Fund was created by Rotarian Betty Chefalo in memory of her husband, Harry Chefalo who was a distinguished Rotarian for 64 years and also served on many boards and committees in the Town of Winchester. 
 
John & Mary Murphy Scholarship - A third Scholarship Fund was added in the names of John and Mary Murphy with a grant from the John and Mary Murphy Foundation.  John was a member of the Rotary Club of Winchester for 32 years.
 
Al Hovannesian Scholarship - A fourth Scholarship Fund for Vocational pursuits has been established in the name of Al Hovannesian. Al was a noted engineer and the owner of Diamond Antenna and Microwave Company of Winchester.
 
Tony Triglione Scholarship - The fifth Scholarship Fund has been added in 2022 to honor Tony Triglione, a man of vision who spoke through his actions. The funding came from the Triglione family and the Triglione Foundation. Their lives and accomplishments exemplify Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self".
 
Eligibility Requirements
Applicant must be a Winchester resident, graduating senior of an accredited public, private, parochial, or charter high school, that has been accepted to an accredited institution of higher education. They must be able to demonstrate that they have reached out to others through community service or through promotion of world peace through international cooperation and understanding.

  • Answer Application Questions A, B, C and D and Community/International Service Verification.
  • All submissions must be type written
  • Verification Letter(s) must be attached to the application or a Verification may be sent by the Supervisor, identifying the student, by email, to: LGentile@WinchesterSavings.com
 
Note:
  • Send no Transcripts.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Interview will be required for finalists.
 
Completed application must be received by the Rotary Scholarship Committee by March 31, 2024.

Application Process
 
The application found on line at the Winchester Rotary Club web site (www.winchesterrotary.org) must be used; this application is also available at the Winchester High School Guidance Department and at area private and parochial schools.
